The wood components of our grinders and storage jars are are treated with food-safe hard wax oil. The finish is layering; this ensures permanent wood protection. The hard wax oil ensures that the wood is easy to clean and is protected from water damage.
It is best to remove the loose debris after every use with a soft brush (super easy and fast). Regularly clean the mill to maintain a smooth function. Don’t wait too long between cleanings.
Regular cleaning will keep your grinder in top shape and will ensure the best experience.
First, disassemble your grinder completely and remove all seals.
Regular cleaning (light soiling) It is best to remove the loose particles inside the grinding chamber with a soft brush after every use. Remove the grater disc and clean the anti-rotation features (holes). If there is adherence left, use a soft cloth/paper towel. Dip the cloth in water, wring the cloth nearly dry and wipe the area clean. Finally, dry it using a soft, clean cloth. Alternatively, apply a little bit of isopropanol/isopropyl (70%-99%) on a soft cloth/paper towel or use alcohol cleaning wipes and carefully wipe off the adherence. Don’t scrape resin residue off the wooden parts to avoid any damage. Don’t soak the wood parts in Isopropanol!
Medium-heavy cleaning ( medium-heavy soiling) If you don’t clean your grinder regularly, resin residue will likely build up on the side walls of the wooden parts. In this case, take your time with the cleaning. Apply some isopropanol/isopropyl (70%-99%) on a soft cloth/paper towel or use an alcohol cleaning wipe and carefully wipe the adherence. Finally, dry it using a soft, clean cloth. Don’t scrape resin residue off the wooden parts to avoid damaging them. Don’t soak the wood parts in Isopropanol!
WAXING
Our RECOMMENDATION: Stona Wood Balm
It enhances the natural wood structure, is easy to apply and provides simple maintenance. Food-safe and non-toxic.
When your Stona grinder feels a little bit dry or has lost its shine, it may be time to apply wood wax. We recommend applying natural food-grade wax to the whole surface 1-2 times a year.
Clean your grinder. Ensure that the surface is completely dry and free of dirt or loose debris.
Wax keeps your grinder looking shiny and new and provides a layer of protection that helps reduce friction and keeps the function smooth.
Disassemble the wooden parts and remove the seals.
Use wax/wood balm to treat and finish your grinder. Apply a thin coat of wax to the surface using a soft cotton cloth, soft kitchen paper towel or just your bare fingers. Don’t apply wax to the grooves of the seals. If the wax gets in the grooves, remove it with a dry cloth. Let it sit for about 30 minutes or until the shine has diminished. Remove all excess wax with a soft cotton cloth or kitchen paper towel and let the wax dry overnight. Apply a second layer and repeat the steps mentioned above.
Extra step for our wood enthusiasts: After the final coat of wax has dried overnight, you can polish the wood by hand or with a polishing machine. We recommend using a lamb's wool pad and polishing until all the streaking has been removed and the sheen is even.
PASSIVE CARE OF YOUR STONA GRINDER
Wood reacts to environmental changes, such as moisture, temperature and light. The tips below should help you to preserve your Stona products.
- Sunlight - Keep your mill away from direct sunlight. Wood is especially susceptible to sun damage. Stona products should be kept out of direct sunlight, and away from heat sources. If exposed to these conditions the wood will eventually split or crack, and the wood will dry out.
- Humidity & Temperature - Wood is a hygroscopic material. It reacts to changes in humidity and temperature. Wood shrinks when exposed to low humidity and expands when exposed to high humidity. Humidity levels should be kept between 40 to 55% , this will guard the product from shrinking, cracking, or expansion. This is also the range considered normal for living condition and best for health.

I was blown away by this… the perfect size for your hand, a genius way to trap the stems and grind large amounts quickly, and the highest retention of smell of the milled herb I’ve ever experienced… the beautiful amber glass base is like a whiskey snifter from which I want to drink the delicious flavors preserved through this ‘grinder’!
Jahrelanger geniesser von Kräutern. Keine Mühle kommt an das ran was Stona bietet. unterschiedliche Siebung, genial da man Samen direkt auffangen kann. Pflege super leicht.

Sehr hochwertig, noch mit ein paar Verbesserungspotenzialen
An sich ein wirklich top Produkt, fühlt sich super hochwertig an und macht auch den Eindruck viele Jahre gute Dienste leisten zu können.
Ein paar Verbesserungspotenziale gibt es aber noch, das Sieb könnte weiter außen auch noch Löcher haben, so wie es aktuell ist sammeln sich am Rand die Reste und drücken sich dann auf dem Sieb fest und man muss sie wieder abkratzen.
Der obere Teil könnte noch etwas genauer in den unteren hineinpassen, aktuell drückt sich immer mal wieder etwas zwischen die beiden Holzteile wodurch das dann dort gequetscht wird.
Bin aber wirklich zufrieden, hoffe aber, dass hier irgendwann ein Stona 2.0 folgt der dann noch etwas ausgereifter ist.
Auf dem holz kann man bisher wirklich alles immer perfekt abkratzen, wenn mal etwas kleben bleibt, ob dies an der „Wachsschicht“ auf dem Holz liegt oder am Holz allgemein kann ich noch nicht beurteilen.
Das Ergebnis ist bis jetzt das Beste was ich je hatte. Dieser Grinder ist nicht so leicht zu Handhaben und zu reinigen wie erwartet aber das Ergebnis zaehlt. Und durch den Vapo gedampft spart man sogar bares Geld. Weiter so.
