A little care keeps the craft alive
Every Stona piece is made to last — and with a little care, it only gets better with time. Treat them gently, and they’ll keep looking (and working) their best for years.
These basic cleaning recommendations and guidelines for regular maintenance will help to ensure their continued long life and beauty.
For the wooden parts of your Stona grinder and Stonito Jar
Wood Care
Your Stona’s wood is sealed with a food-safe hard-wax oil — a natural protection that keeps it smooth, rich, and ready for years of use.
A bit of care now and then keeps it happy and shiny— no heavy lifting required.
Cleaning your Stona is simple — a small moment of care that keeps your grinder performing effortlessly and looking its best.
Regular Cleaning
Regular cleaning keeps everything running like butter and prevents resin from building up. If it’s starting to feel sticky, don’t worry — you’re not alone. It’s just time for a quick spa day.
1. Disassemble the grater disc.
2. Remove loose particles from the grinding chamber with a soft brush.
3. Wipe wooden parts with a soft cloth or paper towel slightly dampened with water.
4. Dry thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth.
Optional: Use a small amount of isopropanol (70–99%) on a cloth or alcohol wipe for a deeper clean. It dissolves buildup gently without harming the finish.
Important: No scraping, no soaking — patience, not pressure.
Deep Cleaning
Let’s be honest — we all forget to clean our grinder until it starts to complain.
If it’s been a while, don’t panic — you just need a little patience. Your Stona will thank you with smoother spins than ever.
1. Apply a little isopropanol (70–99%) to a soft cloth or use an alcohol wipe.
2. Gently wipe the wooden side walls, letting the alcohol soften any resin.
3. Work slowly — no scraping, no force.
4. Dry the parts thoroughly with a soft cloth.
Important: No scraping, no soaking — patience, not pressure.
💡 Pro Tip:
After a deep clean, give the wood a quick conditioning session with the Stona Wood Balm. It restores moisture, adds a protective layer, and brings back that silky-smooth feel.

Passive care of your Stona products
Wood is a natural material — it lives, breathes, and gently reacts to its surroundings.
Changes in humidity, temperature, or light can all affect its surface and structure over time.
These simple tips will help your Stona Grinder and jars stay beautiful and stable for years to come.
Keep your Stona products away from direct sunlight or heat sources.
Wood is especially sensitive to UV exposure — too much can cause the surface to dry, fade, or even crack.
Wood is hygroscopic — it naturally absorbs and releases moisture from the air.
That means it expands in humid conditions and shrinks when it’s dry.
To keep your Stona in balance, aim for an indoor humidity level between 40–60% - that’s the sweet spot both for your wood and your comfort.
Extremes in either direction can cause warping or fine hairline cracks over time. If your space feels particularly dry, a simple room humidifier can make all the difference.
For the stainless-steel slicing discs of your Stona grinder
Slicing Discs Care
Sharp Performance, Simple Care
The Stona’s stainless-steel slicing discs are the heart of the slicing system — designed to cut, not crush.
Each disc features hundreds of micro-blades. Cleaning removes buildup, keeping rotation light and performance at its best.
How often you clean the grater discs really depends on what you’re grinding — some herbs play nice, others like to leave their mark.
If the motion starts to feel a little sticky or less smooth than usual, it’s probably time for a quick clean.
1. Remove the grater disc from the grinder.
2. Gently tap to remove any loose material.
3. Soak your brush or toothbrush with isopropyl alcohol and carefully clean both sides to remove residue. Alternatively, for deeper cleaning, you can briefly soak the disc itself in isopropyl alcohol.
4. Let the disc dry completely before reassembling.
⚠️ Safety note
Handle the grater discs with care — the edges beneath the surface are sharp.
Avoid pressing the surface with your fingertips and always keep the discs out of reach of children.
When cleaning with isopropyl alcohol or other strong agents, follow the manufacturer’s safety instructions. Work in a well-ventilated area and wear protective gloves and glasses if recommended.
For the anodized aluminum lid of your Stona grinder
Lid Care
The top lid of the Stona Grinder is crafted from high-quality aerospace-grade anodized aluminum — corrosion resistant, durable and built to last.
Over time, your lid may get a little residue — no worries. The anodized finish is strong, easy to clean, and made to handle everyday use.
1. Wash the lid under warm running water using mild dish soap.
2. Gently clean the surface with a soft sponge or microfiber cloth.
3. Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue.
4. Let it air-dry or dry it completely before reassembling.
Optional: When heavily soiled, use isopropyl alcohol (70–99%) on a soft cloth to remove residue.
Don’t put the lid in the dishwasher — high heat and detergents will damage the anodized finish.
Don’t use abrasive sponges or scrubbing pads.
Don’t use strong detergents, acidic cleaners, or chemical solvents — they can dull or discolor the surface.
For the glass of your Stona grinder and Stonito jar
Glass Care
Each Stona glass piece is mouth-blown by European artisans — every curve, tint, and bubble tells its own story.
It’s durable enough for everyday use and won’t mind a little dust or fingerprints. Cleaning isn’t a must — it simply keeps the glass looking its best and ready to shine again.
Clean the glass using a standard household glass cleaner and a soft cloth.
We recommend cleaning by hand — aggressive dishwasher detergents can dull or damage the smoked finish over time.
For heavier buildup, isopropyl alcohol (70–99%) can be used to gently dissolve resin or residue.
For the silicone T-seals and O-rings of your Stona grinder and Stonito jar
Seals Care
The seals keep your Stona airtight and easy to use.
Wash them occasionally with warm water and mild soap, then dry them completely before reassembling. When reattaching, remember: the T-seal fits only one way — it belongs on the wooden part, with the lip facing down toward the underside.
Make sure it sits evenly in the groove for a perfect, airtight connection to the glass.
